A police sergeant who jumped to the aid of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman received the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he placed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a traffic accident in the area in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman stabbed," the officer stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage released by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.

He struck the policeman who lost balance and went down to the street, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor even though being continually attacked with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a open target, ending the struggle to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his neck and more cuts to his arms and torso, while Sgt Foster received cut injuries.

Officials said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to paramedics arrived.

This most recent honor follows subsequent to the law enforcement team received departmental Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the local officer association in early 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Valor Recognition in July 2024.

"The actions of each policeman ultimately protected themselves and resulted in no civilians suffered any harm."
