The former Liverpool defender has been a regular in the team's defence this season but the national squad said no additional squad replacements were arranged for the qualification match in the Latvian capital on this Tuesday.

Preamble
This is critical for Ireland, though their hopes of making it to the World Cup may already be finished. A well-known figure in the Portuguese star awaits them, and Portugal are top of their group. At Sporting Club’s stadium, Ireland confront a massive task.
Another key match will be European champion Spain, who have triumphed in every game so far in Group E, against the Georgian team, who have not yet earned a place for a major tournament and are aiming for the playoffs.
