Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
